Since this young age he has worked in his father’s glass studio and has succeeded in developing his sculpting and blowing skills. Michael’s interest in the form of glass has led him to pursue post-secondary education at Sheridan’s Craft and Design program. During his education he has become truly inspired by the material and states that he has just begun to understand what being an artist is really about.

Artist statement “By working in my father’s studio at a young age I became familiar with glass: the way it moves, the way it can make you feel like there is nothing else in the world while it’s in your hands. Working with glass is a thrill, not only is it physically demanding but it is also extremely mentally demanding. I can remember going to the studio after primary school and making glass snakes with my father and brother - I would spend hours playing with the material and learning its properties. My work is about my personal experiences and dreams. I try and create things purely from my perspective; I want the glass to have as much feeling as possible. Dreams have always been very interesting to me and I often wake up and draw a quick sketch of an idea or concept, these dreams have in-turn heavily affected my work.” - Michael Kevin Gray
